Representing Growth Stories: Tony, Maya, and Susie

Read the following growth stories of Tony, Maya, and Susie, and fill in the table on page 292. Then on page 293, sketch graphs of these three students' growth from age 2 to age 10. When you are satisfied with your sketch, make a final draft. Use a different color for each student. Make a key to show which color is for which student.

  • 1 Tony's Story

    Tony was 85 centimeters tall on his second birthday. He grew at a steady rate until he was 10 years old. On his tenth birthday, he was 135 centimeters tall.

  • 2 Maya's Story

    Maya was 90 centimeters tall on her second birthday. She grew quickly until she was 7 years old. Then she grew very slowly until she was 10 years old. On her tenth birthday, she was 145 centimeters tall.

  • 3 Susie's Story

    Susie was 80 centimeters tall when she was 2 years old. She grew at a steady rate until she was 6 years old. Between ages 6 and 8, Susie grew more quickly. On her eighth birthday, she was 115 centimeters tall. Then she grew more slowly until she was 10 years old. On her tenth birthday, she was 120 centimeters tall.
