About the Mathematics in This Unit

Dear Families,

Our class is starting a new mathematics unit about modeling with data called Generating and Representing Measurement Data. During this unit, students collect, represent, describe, and interpret data.

Throughout the unit, students work toward these goals:

Benchmark/Goals Examples
Use a line plot to organize, represent, and analyze data about two groups in order to compare the groups. A hand-drawn number line shows the heights of first and fourth graders. d
Design a data question that involves measurement to compare two groups. Two hand-drawn number lines show Group 3: time balanced on the right foot (seconds) and time balanced on the left foot (seconds). d
Use a line plot to represent measurement data that includes fractions. A number line shows how far we jumped (in inches). d

Please look for more information and activities about Unit 2 that will be sent home in the coming week.
